Spending Christmas in the town of Aliaga, where my dad grew up was truly an experience I will always remember.
On Christmas Eve, we attended the midnight mass at Nuestra Señora De las Saleras Parish.
Afterwards we went over to my Tita Ofelia’s house for a late night spaghetti&bread dinner.
The next morning, I was given the honor of playing Santa Claus for the day. I assumed I was just going to pass out presents to family members but instead it was a bigger role than that. I was in charge of handing out money and candy to kids all around the neighborhood. Like Halloween in a sense, but obviously better! There were well over 300 kids that came by the house and blessed me (kids take your hand and press it against their forehead as a sign of respect for their elders). It definitely felt good giving back to the kids that don’t have a lot. It made me realize how fortunate and lucky I am.
