After spending 3 day in Bangkok, we made a last min. decision to fly over to Laos! We originally planned to be there for 2 days, but since we were loving Vientiane so much we extended our stay for another couple days!
Here’s what we did:
^^ We rented mopeds and nearly got ourselves killed because of how dangerous the roads were and how drivers had little regard for measly mopeds on the road.
^^ Danced to 25 Hours concert. Surprisingly enough, I actually enjoyed the music even though I didn’t understand a word they were saying!
^^ Enjoyed much need massages…loads of ‘em
^^ Visited Patuxai which is a war monument in the centre of Vientiane. This was built in 1957 and completed in 1968, dedicated to those who fought for the independence from France. The design is Laotian but it sort of resembles the Arc De Triomphe in Paris. For a small fee we climb up the Patuxai where the view was unbelievably gorgeous!
^^ Sightseeing Pha That Luang which is probably the grandest temple in Vientiane and is the national symbol of Laos. Sheer beauty. I got to face another big gold reclining Buddha up front.
^^ During our 4 day vacation in Laos, we stayed at 3 different hotels. This one being by far my favorite place! Lao Orchid Hotel. Right behind me is the Mekong River.
^^ Went shopping at Vientiane Night Market which begins around sunset. A small army of sellers set up their red-roofed stalls directly on the riverside promenade – it was really clean and organized. We also met up with some new friends and enjoyed a delicious dinner by the Mekong River!
Last but not least – eating authentic Laos dishes!
^^ yummy breakfast every morning
^^ balut
^^ dim sum
^^ traditional lao soup
^^ Khouvieng Fried Chicken (the local kfc)
^^ fresh road side coconut juice
Thanks for sharing your adventures! Looks so fun. So overdue for a trip!
