Over the weekend I journey back in history to a magical world of knights, sword battles, and nobility as an honored guest of the King’s Court. I’ve always been fascinated by the lifestyle of this time period and enthralling themes of love, betrayal, bravery and good VS evil is what makes TV series like Game of Thrones so popular.
From the very moment the castle doors open everyone is in character and you are instantly transported to a faraway kingdom. The tournament features an epic battle of six knights, each with its own color-coded cheering section in the crowd. As part of the red/yellow knight’s team, we cheered him on against his competitors while booing the evil green knight.
Since eating utensils were not used in the 11th century there are no forks or spoons to be had! Simply roll up your sleeves, use your hands and dig right in! The main course was delicious and hearty! We were served roasted chicken, sweet corn on the cob, baked potato with herb seasoning and a large mug of sprite!
As we enjoyed the feast hosted by the royal family, the drama unfolded into an epic battle of swordsmanship to determine which knight would be chosen to defeat the evil traitor and save the princess from an unfavorable marriage alliance. In the end, all our flag waving and cheering didn’t pay off since out knight was not victorious! But nevertheless, I had an grand ‘ole time!
