A LETTER TO MY SON: HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY AVERY!

I can’t believe how fast time has gone by. I still remember the blog post I did announcing his arrival (check it out here for some throwback photos). It has been the most amazing two years watching him grow, learn new things, and bring so much love and happiness into my life.

Here’s a letter for you, my baby, on your second birthday:

From the moment I stared into your eyes when I met you at the hospital, I knew you were going to completely turn our lives upside down and change them for the better. You have made both me and your dad better and more understanding people. You gave us a reason to try to be our best selves every day.

This second year has been full of unforgettable moments, but just to highlight a few…

YOU KICK WITH YOUR HANDS

We enrolled you in Lil’ Kickers and even though we’re teaching you to kick with your feet, you still prefer to use your hands! You are a wild one and we’re always chasing you around the field!

YOU STARTED TALKING AND LEARNED HOW TO EXPRESS YOURSELF

You sign ‘more’ & ‘milk’ when you are hungry and wanting snacks/food. You say ‘baby’ when you want to watch your favorite show Boss Baby. You say mama and dada the most when you need something or when you’re hurt. You know it’s time for bed when you say ‘nigh-nigh’ and head straight for the bed. You always request for ‘rice’ and do a dance when the food is super delicious! You are doing so well with body parts, but have a little trouble figuring out ‘knees’!

YOU CAN SCOOTER NOW

Just last week, you were scootering on your own now. You are pretty fast, but still not sure how to stop or turn but practice makes perfect so I know you’ll get there! I love watching you grab your green helmet and say ‘bike’ when we reach a park.

YOU LEARNED HOW TO BLOW OUT CANDLES

You have been practicing for the past few weeks by blowing bubbles as well as blowing out the candles! You’re going to be ready for your party next week – no doubt about it!

YOU ARE SO SMART

You know how to use the iPad, get on YouTube and Netflix, call mama’s friends, and so many other things that still blow my mind. You are one smart cookie!

My wish for you is that you live a fulfilled and happy life, that you chase your dreams and passions and work hard towards achieving your goals, that you understand that life is not always perfect. There will always be challenges, but know that they will pass and you should consider them not an obstacle, but a challenge that you can overcome to create the life you want. We will ALWAYS be there to guide you and support you to the best of our ability.

Continue being kind and happy. Remember the greatest moments of happiness in life come from being good to others and from being true to who you are. Don’t ever let anyone make you doubt who you are and what you want to do.

I love you with all my heart and I can’t wait to continue creating memories with you.

Love,
Mama
