Gillian Flynn is a captivating writer. I read “Gone Girl” first, then “Sharp Objects. I couldn’t get enough of her storytelling, so I had to read “Dark Places.” Darkness, twists, turns and suspense kept me coming back for more. If you enjoy a good edge of your seat with a great plot twist, then you too will enjoy these books!
Gone Girl was really full of surprises, lots of twists, and characters with more sides and dimensions than you’d expect. I really couldn’t put this book down. Loved the writing and the story, but the ending was definitely not what I expected it to be. I’d highly recommend it to readers that enjoy suspense, drama, dark humor, and fast-paced action.
I love a good psychological thriller with disturbingly flawed characters and this book did not disappoint. It is very twisted and crazy! The main character has her own mess she deals with on top of finding a story that is more messed up than she is. Flynn does an excellent job of showing the repercussions of child abuse, and what life is like in a small town.
Flynn creates another great story of taking a pretty unlikeable woman and showing us why she’s so messed up — and at the same time, how funny and smart she is. It’s certainly not what you’d call a cozy, and the tone is dark, brooding and at times, brutal! But Flynn does an amazing job of building suspense and weaving the strands of past and present together, while creating vivid characters that will haunt you for some time to come.
GO forth and read!
